Chip Load (US)

This formula finds the load that each tooth on a milling cutter experiences in the radial direction. Use this when you know the RPM, the feedrate in inches per minute, and the number of cutters (or flutes) on the tool.

Chip load is in units of length per tooth, here in inches per tooth. Sometimes the symbol fz is used, but this is typically metric. Here fm is the feedrate in inches per minute.
